Driver's Education

We are excitied to announce FHS has partnered with Cardinal Driving School to offer Driver’s Education as an elective course for the upcoming school year.

This semester-long course will take place daily from 2:00–3:00 PM and provides students with a comprehensive driver’s education experience. Students who successfully complete the course will earn ½ elective credit, along with fulfilling all required classroom instruction and in-car driving hours.

To be eligible for this course, students must be at least 15½ years old and possess a valid driver’s permit.

This is a great opportunity for students to gain the knowledge and practical experience needed to become safe and responsible drivers, at a significant rate reduction, all within the school setting. For more information on the class and how to apply, plan on attending the informational meeting.

Families who receive SNAP benefits may be eligible for a tuition scholarship, reducing the cost to $50.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  1. What is the difference between the Cardinal Driving School program & the FHS program? 

The Teen Classroom Combo at Cardinal Driving School is made up of the 24 hours of classroom instruction and the 8 hours of behind the wheel driving that is required by the State to obtain a driver’s license.  Classes are broken up into six 4-hour evening classes. Driving sessions are broken up into four 2-hour sessions.  The cost is $480. 

At FHS, students will receive the exact same 24 hours of classroom instruction, but it is broken up into twentyfour 1-hour classes.  Classes occur during a student’s daily school schedule during periods 16/17 with a 15 minute extension.  (2:00 - 3:00pm) Driving sessions are the same four 2-hour sessions, but sessions may start within the school day (2:00pm).  The comprehensive course is a semester long. The cost is $375.  For students who are eligible for free & reduced lunch, the cost is $300.  There is an opportunity for families who receive SNAP benefits to apply for a tuition scholarship, reducing the rate to $50.  In addition, students will receive ½ elective credit toward graduation. 

  1. Who is eligible for the FHS driving class? 

Any full-time Findlay High School student who meets the standard driving school requirements.  

  • Student is at least 15 ½ years old when the class starts
  • Student must hold a temporary diver’s permit 
  • Student must submit registration form prior to August 10, 2026
  • Student must pay tuition in-full before the start of the first class
  1. Is there a limit on the number of students who are able to participate? 

Each semester, the class will be capped at 25 students, with enrollment offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Obtain your Temporary Driver’s Permit through the Ohio BMV.
